Bio-energy in the black

© The Ecological Society of America www.frontiersinecology.org T energy demands of modern societies are steadily increasing. Today, much of this demand is satisfied by fossil fuels, such as gas, oil, and coal, energy resources that are not renewable, and which will eventually be exhausted. The first glimpse of the energy crisis to come has been the price increases at the gas station. Additional concerns include the dependence on regionally concentrated supplies and related international conflicts, and the emission of greenhouse gases associated with the use of fossil fuels (IPCC 2001). There is ample evidence to show that the Earth is warming due to anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases, with climatic consequences including desertification, a rise in ocean levels, and increased numbers of hurricanes (IPCC 2001). In addition to urgently needed energy conservation, alternative forms of energy are required to decrease dependence on fossil fuel reserves and to avoid or decrease CO2 emissions. Wind and solar energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, and bio-energy can all help society to reach these goals (Turner 1999). However, none of these technologies will be able to reverse climate change. A variant of bio-energy may not only be carbon-neutral, but carbon-negative. Use of this type of energy would not only avoid contributing to climate change, but may actually draw CO2 from the atmosphere, thereby reducing global warming. Using pyrolysis in combination with a land application of a biochar residue, carbon sequestration, and renewable energy, are not alternatives to one another (Turner 1999), but may become a joint strategy.

نقش فیزیولوژیک کودهای زیستی در بهبود عملکرد کشت مخلوط سیاه‌دانه و لوبیا چیتی

In order to investigate the effect of bio-fertilizers on the effective physiological characteristics and to improve the performance of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and black cumin (Nigella sativa L.) in different ratios of intercropping, a field experiment was conducted as a factorial based on a randomized complete block design with three replications; this study was carried out at the r...

Investigation of Consecutive Separating Arrangements of Bio active Compounds from Black Tea (Camellia sinensis) Residue

Every year lots of black tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze) residue will produce in the factories. These residue are unusable whereas the bio active compounds can be extracted and used in the drag and food industries. Due to mentioned problems, this project was conducted years 2011 - 2012 with the aim to make a study on consecutive isolation of all bio active compounds from tea residu...

Tuning of fuzzy logic controller using an improved black hole algorithm for maximizing power capture of ocean wave energy converters

Seas and oceans are the most important sources of renewable energy in the world. The main purpose of this paper is to use an appropriate control strategy to improve the performance of point absorbers. In this scheme, considering the high uncertainty in the parameters of the power take-off system in different atmospheric conditions, a new improved black hole algorithm is introduced to tune fuzzy...

Changes of Tropane Alkaloids in Black Henbane (Hyoscyamus niger L.) in Response to Different Types of Nitrogenous Fertilizers

Background: Since alkaloids are nitrogenous compounds, the availability of nitrogen (N) is expected to play an important role in the biosynthesis and accumulation of alkaloids in plants. Nitrogen has been found to increase the content of alkaloids in some of the medicinal plants. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of nitrogen bio-fertilizers, conventional nitrogen fe...

Effect of combining biological and chemical fertilizers on yield and quality of Black Cumin grain under different irrigation levels

Drought stress is one of the abiotic factors that reduces crop production. The use of biofertilizers can mitigate the negative effects of drought stress and reduce chemical inputs on agricultural systems. In order to investigate the effect of combined management of chemical and biological fertilizers on yield and quality-related traits of black cumin (Nigella sativa L.) under different irrigati...

Fundamental Solution and Study of Plane Waves in Bio-Thermoelastic Medium with DPL

The fundamental solution of the system of differential equations in bio-thermoelasticity with dual phase lag (DPL) in case of steady oscillations in terms of elementary function is constructed and basic property is established. The tissue is considered as an isotropic medium and the propagation of plane harmonic waves is studied. The Christoffel equations are obtained and modified with the ther...
